This was last week. The tooth brush is already out of favour as a toy!

Quick question for all you mummys out there

At what age is it ok for your baby to eat dirt and leaves and stuff?

Christmas day extract

We didnt get H much for Christmas but he LOVED what we did get him! He was more interested in the crunchy paper than the presents though, once he had them open. A huge thank you to everyone that sent gifts along for our little man, we greatly appreciate it. Please excuse our hair-dos, lets just say we havent been sleeping much lately, though that's a blog post for another day.

Photos

Im back logged with photos so some of these over the next few days are a little older but they are cute, so worth viewing still!

These are the rest of the photos from our walk with the dogs the other day...

GQ models already!

Is it conceited to think my baby is the cutest baby in the world!?

Honestly, do I look like my 30th is round the corner! I look about 12! 15 if you push your luck. Mind you, I bought alcohol at the grocery store the other day and no body asked me for ID. So I guess not eh!

It was supposed to be fun!

Today I took Henry to the pool on campus because I thought he would love it, since he loves water and splashing around and what not. No. Silly Mummy. Getting myself and him changed was no big deal. His new swim nappies are a little big for him but it was the correct weight category so there is not much I can do about that, he is just long and skinny. He was holding on to my swimming costume for dear life as we walked into the pool area. He stared intently at everyone playing as we waited for Danny. The pool was absolutely freakin' freezin'! Even for me, with more fat than my little man. We played for about 15 minutes I think, I even managed to get a chuckle or two out of him, though it was like squeezing blood from a stone. I was especially grateful Danny was there to help because dealing with wrapping the baby up and keeping him warm when you are soaking wet yourself and have to carry the bag to the changing room, was a little bit tough. The worst thing was that once I had him all dressed and cozy warm again, he wanted to be cuddled but I was still wet. So he screamed from the floor as I got changed as quickly as I could and handed him to Danny in the foyer for me to gather all my stuff up. He fell asleep on the way home and is still asleep now, more than an hour later. I did start to worry about hypothermia as he slept but then realised I was being ridiculous, it wasnt that cold.

So now Im not sure how I feel about the baby swimming lessons that we were going to start in February. hmmmm.

Henry's clock

Henry's biological clock is absolutely amazing. Whether it is in the morning, afternoon or night time, right when I am half way through my (usually well-earned) cup of tea, he will wake up. So Im wising up! He JUST went down for a nap and Ive got the kettle on! That should ensure that I can sit down and drink it all before he next wakes up.

A little more information than you need... but babies who eat just a teaspoon of solids (vegetable and fruit mush) a day have much much stinker and more disgusting poos! Last night the poor little chap had one at 330am for me to change. Neither of us were happy campers.

American Baby Magazine Cover Contest

It began with pumpkin...

Danny fed Henry his first solid 'meal' last night, if you can call it that. He had a tablespoon of pumpkin puree mixed with breastmilk. Danny said he did really well, eating it all and not spitting any of it back up. Thankfully Danny changed his nappy this morning! Fiber works quickly on little bodies!

A small victory for this mummy

I have been trying with the sippy cup lately and to no avail. On a whim today, I tried the Medela bottle that comes with the pump and hey presto! With almost no argument, H lugged down one whole ounce of milk from a bottle! In case of emergency in the future, or just because I am going back to work (boo hoo) in January, at least I know he can take a bottle.

Weekend in Nashville

We had a fantastic time with our good friends The Vinsons this weekend in Smyrna, TN. The drive up seemed to take forever since we had to stop half way to feed Henry and let him out of the car seat for an hour or so, but all in all it wasnt so bad. H slept most of the way just waking up to eat in Jackson. He was rather good, which is always a treat. Talking of treats, Summer and I got to go out, into the real wide world Saturday when our lovely men-folk had the boys. We spent lots of our husbands hard earned cash on baby clothes and realised at the end of our outing that we had been to three baby stores and Whole Foods. Whilst Whole Foods is always a treat, and baby clothes are cute, that is pretty sad. But we had a great time, so who cares!

In fact, we bought Henry and Jay the same outfit, in different sizes of course! And you just know that we will be getting yelled at in twenty years when these pictures of our little twinkies re-surface! And let me preface by saying again that no, Henry is not a giant baby, Jay was born 5 days after Henry at just 2 lbs 7 oz, 13 weeks before his due date. He is now a healthy looking 8lb or so young man that has a wonderful personality!

Frustrated

I am frustrated.

I have never spent 2 hours at the opticians, especially when there is nothing wrong with me and my prescription didnt change.

I also do not like the optician. I think he is a sleazy, stuck up frat boy that never grew up.

Our apt was for 835am. I didnt think it would be that bad, even though nap time is at 9am. I figured we would be home by 930am at the latest. I mean seriously, how long can it take to look at some letters on a board. Well they didnt see us til 915am, ridiculous. Then they kept fitting other people in around us. Poor Henry was ever so good but obviously aggravated that he wasnt asleep. He past out on the way home, instantly. We didnt get home util 1045am. Ridiculous.

Annual check up...

One week its the baby, the next week the dog. We always debate Mojo's age but he is probably around 10 or 11 years old. And boy did the vet keep going on about his getting on in age, so I guess poor old Mojo is officially an old dog.

Things wrong with growing old:
His hair is starting to shed and not grow back, resulting in bald patches.
He has cataracts and may very well go blind. On the upside, it will only be partial blindness. How the vet knows this, I dont know.
He has a degenerative bone disorder with his hips and arthritis and needs two full strength aspirin a day.
Somehow he still has heartworm, despite the other vet telling us it was all gone. Due to his age, the only thing to do to rid him of heart worm is to keep giving him the Inteceptor and hope it goes away.
As a result of the heartworm, or possibly sinus issues (vet didnt know the answer to this one) he has a hacking cough, for which nothing can be done. It sounds like he is going to vomit every hour or so. Though it is worse in the mornings I suppose, so it could very well be a sinus issue.

On the positive side of things, perhaps, he will apparently live a long time. Perhaps, because I hate for him to suffer. Though he seems spritely now, so hopefully his hips arent hurting him too much in general.

Makes me not want to grow old. I already have sore knees and a bad neck and shoulders...

4 month check up

Henry had his 4 month check up today. I was sort of dreading it because it was at 9am and he is usually crying for his nap by 845am. So we fed him a little earlier than usual and I cycled to the doctors so that he would nap on the way there, which he did. He was happy flirting with the girls at the desk, of course. He was happy waiting for the doctor (what brilliant person thought to put a mirror in the doctors room!?!). He was happy for the visit with the doctor. He didnt even cry when he had the medicine drops, not even for the first shot, but about a minute after the nurse stuck the needle in his second leg, all hell broke loose! He was just too tired by that stage. He cried, properly, for a good few seconds then his face went back to its normal colour and all was well. He slept on the ride home, even slept in the post office and he is asleep now. I have had a lovely long, hot shower and am going to enjoy the day of him sleeping it off. Im going to sit down and knit as Im get more and more excited, the closer I get to finishing his blanket.

Statistics:
Weight: 13lbs 13 oz
Height: 25.3 inches
Head Circumference: 43cm

Which begs the question, why do they do the length in Imperial units, but the head in metric?

Doctors comments, very very healthy baby!

It is still Tuesday!

How is it still Tuesday! Today seems like an eternity!

Im totally loving being a stay at home Mum this week, but only because I feel on top of my game. And that is only because H is sleeping 2-3 hours a morning in his bed, enabling me to get all of my work done, and a little house work. You gotta love a clean house and a happy Mummy!

We have done so much today, I cannot believe it is still Tuesday, not that I ever believed it was Tuesday in the first place!

Anyway, Im trying to be more healthy today, so Im having an apple with my (nightly) Reese's peanut butter cup today! For a girl that does not like chocolate, I sure have eaten a lot of chocolate since H was born.

Oh dear. I just realised why I am so spritely at 8pm in the evening! I had caffeine today for the first time in several years! I had a chai tea at the coffee shop this afternoon, I wonder when that will wear off!

Sods Law

Alcohol takes 60-90 minutes to get out of your system so you are good to feed you baby. Last night was the second night since last October (2009) that I had an alcoholic drink. I had about 1/3 glass wine with my dinner as a special treat. I drank the most of it around 745-8pm but had the last sip at 830pm. Last night was the only night H woke up at 9pm and wanted feeding. I managed to stretch him to 940pm before feeding him and downed water like there was no tomorrow in the mean time. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a nice glass of wine. Im not complaining though, he now sleeps 6pm til 7am with a sleep feeing at 10pm. Awesome!

Panic averted

Yes, H had a cold because he is back to his non-napping, chatting giggling self. At least I know I wasnt going crazy, he was definitely different. But all is well now.

Mystery solved

I believe my little man has a little bit of a cold. He had some crusty lines under his nose this morning, leading me to believe it was snotty during the night. I think this would account for the increased sleeping. I dont want to get used to it, because I think its on its way out as the naps today have been just a little bit shorter, but last night he slept from 615pm until 715am, no during the night feeds!

Our trip to the beach

These are from our trip to the beach in September... H is much (much) bigger than this now.

I dont say this often enough, but my husband is a fantastic photographer.
